Vanilla Ice Avoids Prosecution over Grand Theft by Agreeing to a Plea

Rapper Vanilla Ice managed to escape prosecution following his compliance with a plea deal relating to a grand theft charge in Florida. His lawyer Bradford Cohen from Fort Lauderdale said the singer was very nervous as he has never been in similar trouble before. The court ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service and pay USD 1,333 to a neighbor in Lantana after the reportedly stole furniture and swimming pool equipment from his estate. His community service will take place at a Habitat for Humanity Project in the Palm Beach County in Florida.

Rapper, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, must also admit he is guilty of a crime, but he will not get a record after he has completed terms of the agreement. If he had been tried, Van Winkle would have been facing up to five years in jail and a maximum fine of USD 5,000. At the time of his apprehension in February, the rapper said that the entire situation had been overblown by media.

He is currently involved in a DIY reconstruction project of his home, which is being filmed and aired as a part of a reality show featured on Vanilla Ice's DIY network “The Vanilla Ice Project”. Cohen said that Vanilla Ice is happy that the scandal will be resolved by the time the fifth season of his TV series starts.

Van Winkle's lawyer said the incident was a misunderstanding because the equipment Vanilla Ice was accused of stealing was actually left outside the estate by squatters who vandalized the house.
