Uma Thurman (born April 29, 1970), is an American actress and a former model. During her career, she was playing in the sci-fi, dramas, actions and comedy movies. She is the most known for roles in the movies, Kill Bill and Batman & Robin.
Uma was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Her parents are: Nena von Schlebrügge, a former model, who was born in Mexico City and Robert Alexander Farrar Thurman, Uma’s father is a professor and Buddhist writer and academic. Her family, and she, spent a lot of time in the town of Almora (the Himalayan town) in India. The interesting fact is that Dai Lama visited them once, because he was a friend with Robert Thurman. Uma most of her childhood spent in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she went to the Amherst Regional Middle School. After high school, she moved to Woodstock, New York. Her name Uma, means ‘’Light’’ in Sanskrit. She has three brothers: Dechen, Ganden and Mipam, and a half-sister Taya. A Swedish football player Max von Schlebrügge, is Uma’s cousin! Uma is described as quiet and awkward girl, so she was teased in high school. At the age ten, her mother suggested her a nose plastic surgery!
She was married to Gary Oldman. They were married in 1990 and divorced two years later! In 2008 she married Ethan Hawke. Uma confirmed that the only reason for this marriage was her pregnancy. In 2007 she started dating Arpad Busson.
